INSTAGRAM CAPTION SHOULD HAVE:


1. STRONG OPENING HEADLINE

2. VALUABLE INFORMATION

3. CALL TO ACTION

4. DIRECTING PEOPLE TO BIO LINK (WHEN APPLICABLE)

5. EMOTIONAL CONNECTION WITH AUDIENCE

6. 30 RELEVANT HASHTAGS (POSTED AS The FIRST COMMENT)

7. RELEVANT CREDITS WHERE APPLICABLE


CAPTION TEMPLATE 1:


STRONG OPENING LINE


You need to make the headline pop so using bold, capitals and emojis can be effective.

Think of ways to gain interest from the reader with a snappy headline. 


CONTENT BULK


The four types of content to interchange are:

Entertaining posts (e.g could be a marketing meme)

Educational posts (how to's etc)

Inspiring / Motivation posts (personal journey, overcoming obstacles etc)

Promotional / Sales posts (Products, courses)

CALL TO ACTION

What is a call to action? A call to action is a marketing term to prompt a response from the viewer to take action. Whether it’s to buy a product, sign up to an email newsletter or to comment below. A call to action will increase the chances of the desired behavior, so it is important to integrate them into your advertising messages. 


There are different types of call to actions:


  1. Engagement call to action

GOAL: Build a relationship and trust with your audience

Ask to tag a friend.

Ask to share the post with a friend.

Ask readers to share their experiences, thoughts, and opinions 

Ask your readers to comment on their favorite emoji if they agree with your statement.

Ask readers to answer a question in the comments section.


2. Conversion call to action


GOAL: Get the audience to consume products that could lead to potential revenue.


  1. Shop/ buy a product

  2. Subscribe to an email list

  3. Register for a workshop/course

  4. Book a consultation

  5. Get a free trial

  6. Watch Youtube / Twitch / Live video

  7. Download an ebook

CREDITS:

Another way to maximize your marketing potential and avoid any unnecessary legal issues is to credit creators and fellow businesses if you reference their work. 

For example, perhaps you have used a photographer for some promotional work and are going to use the photo on Instagram. Crediting them will protect your brand and also serve as cross-promotion and nurture your professional network. If you credit them maybe they will repost your post on their feed meaning more exposure for your brand. 

How to give proper credit:

Comment the business name with @ then their username

For example: “Photography by the talented @walterevansphotography 

Remember to tag them within the photo too for maximum effect! 

HASHTAGS:

Hashtags are a great way to help potential customers find your content on Instagram.

CAPTION TEMPLATE 2:

STRONG OPENING LINE

BUILD INTEREST: Introduce a problem your reader is facing


CREATE DESIRE: Build desire for your product/service by explaining how you will solve the problem your reader is facing


CALL TO ACTION Direct the reader to take an action using a CTA phrase

EXTRA TIPS:

Instagram wants people to engage with content and stay on the site. Ensure your instagram captions are long enough so that people need to click to read more. 

CLICK = ENGAGEMENT.

Write in your brand's conversational language and make it sound like you are talking directly to the viewer as an individual. 

Make sure to credit applicable sources especially fellow business owners like photographers.

Format captions for easy reading:

  1. Concise paragraphs

  2. Line breaks

  3. Break up information with emoji's if needed

There are many more ways to write compelling content for Instagram and once you are comfortable with the basic structure, you can experiment to find what works most effectively for your business.
